FAQ

How do we begin?

The first step is for us to meet for a free 15-minute online consultation. We will briefly discuss your need for therapy and any questions or concerns that you may have. If you decide to move forward, we will schedule an initial appointment.

What should I expect from our first session?

Our first meeting is a gentle space to begin. We’ll continue the conversation started in the consultation and take time to explore what has brought you to therapy. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your experiences, concerns, and hopes, but there is no pressure to share more than what feels comfortable. The focus is on helping you feel heard and understood, while we begin to clarify what support might be most helpful for you moving forward. This session provides you with a clear impression of my therapeutic style, the services I offer, and how I can support your goals. Should we both determine that we are a good fit, we will proceed to schedule regular appointments to continue the therapeutic work.

Is there a waiting list and do I need a referral from my GP?

Since I do not work with Dutch health insurance, I do not need a referral letter. I aim to keep my waiting time to a minimum (generally less than two weeks). In our initial consultation, I will provide you with more information.

Do you take health insurance?

I am a private psychologist and thus do not accept Dutch health insurance. Session fees are not reimbursed. However, some international and student plans may provide coverage. Please contact your insurance provider directly to learn more.

What if I am in a crisis and need immediate help?

I do not provide crisis counseling. Please call your doctor or the crisis hotline. If you are in the Netherlands, you can call 0800-113 or Spoedeisende Psychiatrie Amsterdam 020 523 54 33.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to change your appointment, I will do my best to accommodate. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur the full session fee.

What do I do if I am not satisfied with my treatment?

If you have any concerns about your treatment, I encourage you to share them with me directly. Alternatively, you can submit a written complaint to derika.psychologist@yahoo.com.If you are not satisfied with the solution provided, you can file a complaint with the Klacht and Company via nip@klachtencompany.nl. Complaints can be submitted digitally using this form.
